Overview

Oak Cottage and Arch Cottage are two self catering holiday cottages set in the tranquil mid Devon countryside where we are slowly transforming eighteen acres of wilderness into wonderful grounds with woods, streams and a stunning two acre fishing lake.

The gardens are home to plenty of wildlife including deer and badgers, and many many birds including woodpeckers and buzzards and kingfishers on the lake.

The lake was re-stocked in 2003 with mirror and common carp, rudd and tench and is now fast becoming an angler�s paradise. There are several large fish lurking in the reeds, so why not try your hand with a rod and line � there is no charge.

Our own chickens peck about in the gardens and they are always an absolute favourite with children as are the gardens and ball game field where they can play safely away from any traffic.

Once part of the Bradfield Estate, the cottages, two of a terrace of three, started life as dog kennels and then servants� quarters and are now very stylish and comfortable single-storey cottages, each with a sunny terrace and their own walled garden below.

This is a little piece of heaven with tranquil spots to sit and relax but, if you can tear yourselves away, the coast at Exmouth is a half-hour drive and Honiton, Lyme Regis and Sidmouth are within easy reach. The beautiful north Devon coast famed for it's surfing is under an hour away, as are both Exmoor and Dartmoor.

All guests are greeted with cream tea and a bottle of wine ready chilling, a perfect way to start a relaxing break.

Each cottage sleeps 4 plus a cot. All gas, electricity, towels and linen are included in the price.

With under-floor heating throughout, these cottages are warm and welcoming whatever the season.

 

Accommodation Details

Oak Cottage, at the end of the terrace, has French doors leading out from the open plan living-room onto the terrace. Light and airy, the decor is simple but attractive, with neutral colours such as cream, off-white and deep oatmeal. The kitchen is extremely well-equipped and there is plenty of room to enjoy a leisurely breakfast or a special dinner. The bedrooms are charming with pretty linens and soft lighting. Ground Floor Step to Entrance hall. Step to Open plan living-room with kitchen and dining areas. TV with freesat, DVD player and CD and tape player. Gas hob, electric oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine/drier and dishwasher. Bedroom 1 with double bed (5'). Bedroom 2 with twin beds. Bathroom with bath, fitted shower, WC and wash-basin.

Arch Cottage next door is approached from the front, stepping up from the footpath around the side of the cottages and in through French doors. Again the furnishings and colour schemes are soft and simple, but with touches of colour from prints, pictures and the odd brightly coloured cushion or bed cover. Like its neighbour, this cottage is ideal for a small family or friends wishing to stay somewhere contemporary, yet still enjoy a restful get-away-from-it-all holiday.

Price Guide:

Weekly lets from �351 to �834 depending on season. Our weekly let change over day is Friday.
We offer short lets from Friday to Monday or Monday to Friday.

Both Oak and Arch prices are inclusive of electricity and gas.

We do not accept pets and both cottages are non smoking.

 

Other Information

The lake is well stocked with both mirror and common acrp, rudd, tench and orfe. The lake was restocked in 2003 and the fish are growing and breeding well with some of the carp reaching over 14lb. It is a perfect match lake or a beginners lake especially for children as the fish are readily catchable!
While staying with us, there is no charge for the use of the lake.
