Overview
A large self catering holiday house and cottage to rent
in Cornwall, sleeps up to 16, uninterrupted sea views,
infinity swimming pool, within close walking distance
of Mousehole.
Sandy beaches and coves, surfing, St. Ives, St.
Michael's Mount, open-air Minack Theatre, visits to
gardens, Cornish coast path walks, good restaurants are
all within easy reach. The house, light and airy with
large windows over-looking the sea, sleeps 10, with an
annex sleeping 2. The cottage for rent separately or
with the house, sleeps 4, is spacious and open plan
with a balcony and sea view.
Accommodation Details
THE HOUSE
Built in 1912 for a French sea captain who clearly wanted to feel as close to the sea as he could, Carn Du is an Edwardian villa which comfortably sleeps 12 with free WiFi throughout.
The principal rooms all have panoramic views of the Atlantic from Penzance, Mount�s Bay and the Lizard to the rocky coastline which stretches west towards Lamorna and Land�s End.
There is a large family kitchen with an Aga and smeg range oven, a spacious dining room, a sitting room with a log fire and a sun room which all open into one another creating a wonderful sense of light and space.
On the first floor a light airy landing, typical of a house of this period, leads to five large bedrooms, three with en-suite bathrooms, and an additional family bathroom. The two principal bedrooms open on to a balcony high above the sea, one with a Victorian enamelled bath underneath the window.
The house has a self contained attached annexe with a separate entrance. It also has sea views, and includes a kitchen, bathroom and bedsitting room. Ideal for teenagers or staff.
THE COTTAGE
The cottage, which sleeps 4 can be rented with the main house or separately. It has a large open-plan sitting room/dining room/kitchen, with a wood-burning stove. Upstairs there is a bathroom and two double bedrooms (one with a balcony). All rooms look over the sea.
There is an outdoor, heated infinity pool (7m x 4m) open from the Spring up until October 30th, located in the garden. Guests are requested to bring pool and beach towels.
General Details
Carn Du house and Carn Du cottage are next to one another at the top of Raginnis Hill in south west Cornwall. A quarter of a mile down a steep road to the left, as you look out to sea, is a natural sandy harbour in the middle of Mousehole. Along the coast road beyond Mousehole are Newlyn and Penzance.
From Carn Du you can look out beyond Penzance to St Michael�s Mount, where, in 1047, Edward the Confessor established a chapel which stands on an island in Mount�s Bay.
The coastline is gentle here, but becomes more rugged as you move west towards Lamorna Cove and Land�s End. With its abundance of prehistoric stone monuments, this peninsula was the last part of Britain to be taken over by the Anglo Saxons from the Celts. DH Lawrence said of it: �This Cornwall is very primaeval: great, black, jutting cliffs and rocks, like the original darkness, with a pale sea breaking in, like dawn��
It is also full of beautiful beaches. The beach at Porthcurno is 15 minutes by car from Carn Du, and beyond that, hidden away, is the lovely 3 star beach of Sennen. Just beyond Land�s End, offers some of Cornwall�s best surfing. You can fly to the Scillies by helicopter for the day from Penzance airport.

Please note, beach and pool towels are not provided, please bring your own .
