Other Information

Mews Cottage is a short walk to the centre of this very old and picturesque town which still boasts an active quayside fish market, and some of the finest fish restaurants in the country. The town has an old heritage, and is famous for being the home of Captain James Cook, the explorer, and Bram Stoker, who created the story of Dracula. The east-side of Whitby holds a mixture of fisherman's cottages and specialist shops along its narrow cobbled streets, leading back to the 199 steps up to St. Mary's Church and the ancient Abbey of St. Hilda. Other notable attractions are Captain Cook's museum, the RNLI Lifeboat museum, the Pannet Museum & Park, and, of course, the expansive sandy beach that stretches from Whitby to Sandsend.
