The Smithy is a charming cottage in immaculate condition (Listed Grade II). Situated in the Square of the picturesque village of Chilham; a Tudor square surrounded by 15C timber framed houses, with views of Chilham Castle.
Chilham Square has been the set for a number of films including the 2005 ITV TV episode� Miss Marple � The moving finger� and the 2009 BBC TV series Emma, where The Smithy was turned into a shop.
n the village there are two pubs, a train station (short walk away and with direct trains to London, Ashford, Canterbury and Ramsgate), bus stop (services to Canterbury and Ashford), and a Post Office. Groceries, fruit and vegetables can be obtainable from nearby farm shops. Plenty of parking spaces in the nearby free car park (3 min. walk).�

Exceptionally well-maintained cottage to very high standards. Fully furnished with comfortable traditional furniture, oak wood flooring, carpeting, soft furnishings and floor tiles as appropriate. Gas central heating and hot water. Plenty of storage space. Garden furniture.
The living room has oak beams, oak flooring and an open log fireplace, the kitchen/diner is very well equipped with 4 gas hobs, extractor hood, full size electric oven and grill, microwave, washer/dryer machine, dishwasher and water softener. Large dining table for 6. Two walk in storage rooms - one with fridge / freezer, and space for drying / storage of walking equipment. Upstair, the bedroom offers a comfortoble double bed (new pocket memory foam mattress), wardrobe and plenty of storage cupboards, radiator, and small library. The bathroom has a bath with power shower, WC, wash hand basin, shaver point, towel rails, radiator, floor & wall tiles throughout.

 

Price Guide:

The cottage hire is Saturday to Saturday. Costs in low season �290 per week, mid season �350 per week, high season �430 per week.
Long weekend or midweek stays are available on request (May to end September excluded) rates are based on 70% of the weekly

 

General Details

Chilham is on the North Downs National Trail and ancient Pilgrim's Way to Canterbury in a designated "Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty�.
Walking distance to the beautiful, peaceful countryside: the Kent Downs, woodland, lakes and orchards. Excellent walks from the cottage to Kings Wood (1,500 acres) where King Henry VIII hunted deer and to Godmersham Park (visited by Jane Austin). Numerous other walks nearby in the Stour Valley and Crundale Downs.

Easy access to many of Kent's attractions, its gardens, castles, coast, nature reserves and historic old towns e.g. Sissinghurst Gardens, Leeds and Dover Castles, Chatham historical dockyard, Whitstable, Faversham, Sandwich, Romney Marsh, Walmer, Rye.Only is 6mls away from the Cathedral city of Canterbury.
