Updown Cottage is a 5* with Gold Award luxury self catering cottage in one of the most iconic and picturesque locations in England. Gold Hill, otherwise known as 'Hovis Hill' was the location for the 1970's Ridley Scott 'Boy on a Bicycle' advert for Hovis bread.
The views from the cottage and hill-side garden stretch over miles of glorious English countryside.
Designed with sophisticated cosiness in mind, you need arrive with only your clothes to start relaxing. Many guests intend using the cottage to explore the west country but often stray no further than the coffee shops and restaurants of Shaftesbury.
One of the few cottages to house a baby grand piano, guests have included musicians and composers seeking peace and inspiration.
Food lovers are spoilt for choice and could easily eat locally produced, excellent meals, 3 times a day for a week in different venues!

General Details

The cottage is perfectly positioned to explore the whole of the west country of England including, Salisbury Cathedral, Stonehenge, Bath, Sherborne Abbey & Castle, Wardour Castle, Corfe Castle and the Jurassic Coast.

It is possible to have a car-free break as the train from London stops at Gillingham (4 miles away) and National Express coaches stop at the top of the hill just 1 minute away. Shaftesbury has every convenience within minutes - delis, supermarkets, pubs, restaurants, cafes, boutique shops, walks, cycle hire, ruins, etc.

Payment may be made by bank transfer, cheque or credit card subject to a �5 charge for each transaction made by credit card.
We simply ask for �100 deposit with the balance + a further refundable �100 housekeeping deposit by 4 weeks before the booking.
