Overview
Thwaite Cottage is a beautiful seventeenth century
former farmhouse set in a peaceful wooded garden near
the head of Coniston Lake. It is ten minute's walk from
the village, two by car.
Ample parking with room for a boat/ canoes if needed
and storage for bikes.
An excellent centre for fell walking, cycling, sailing
and fishing or just general touring the Lakes.
English Tourist Board Four Star rating.

The cottage is oak-beamed with original panelling, log fires and slate floors.
The emphasis is on a warm welcome and unpretentious comfort.

The village has many pubs and restaurants and is within strolling distance.
Nearby there is Brantwood - the home of John Ruskin - a delightful house with extensive and very lovely gardens. The Ruskin Museum in Coniston is full of fascinating local information particularly for those wanting to find out about Donald Campbell.
The steam yacht 'Gondola' plies the Lake along with two electric launches and it's possible to hire boats and canoes to row, paddle and sail.
In Grizedale Forest visitors can walk and mountain bike or try Go Ape - an exciting aerial adventure course.
Local beauty spots like Tarn Hows and the Langdales are breathtaking while villages like Hawkshead and Ambleside are well worth a visit.
